Looking for a fun-filled break with your loved one? To hit just the right note between romantic and entertaining, Canberra is a fantastic location. If you are visiting Canberra as a couple, make sure that you stick these things on your must-do list of fun things to do in Canberra for couples.

Walk down Lonsdale Street

If you are looking for a fun day out, you don’t need to go any further than Lonsdale Street. There are plenty of highly recommended restaurants up and down this street, making it is a great place for foodies. Food trucks, pop-up bars, and restaurants serving all kinds of cuisine occupy this area of the city. There are also trendy boutiques for you to browse after you eat. If you are interested in food or fashion, make this your first stop in Canberra – there’s definitely a his ‘n’ hers vibe here.

Browse the farmer’s market

Just about every city has a farmer’s market that you supposedly have to visit, but Canberra really does. Bonus, there are two of them. The Capital Region Farmer’s Market is home to more than 100 stalls, with fresh food as well as locally produced fruit, vegetables, and more on sale. You can get the best and freshest choices here, perfect if you are self-catering. Then there’s the Old Bus Depot Markets, where you can find arts and crafts on sale. Both are open on Sundays. Jewellery and handmade gifts are the norm, and vintage items also find their place amongst these stalls.

Explore the National Gallery

What better place to discover art than the National Gallery? If you and your loved one enjoy strolling hand in hand past astounding works of art, then you won’t be able to get enough of this fantastic gallery space. It’s a huge collection of works from multiple eras, genres of art, and cultures, so it has a little something for everyone. No matter what kind of art you prefer to stare at for hours, you will find it here – and we all love feeling a little cultured now and then.

Date in New Acton

Even when you’re away from home, it’s still important to do Date Night. Head over to New Acton, an area outside the city centre which has plenty to offer. There is a cinema here if you want to catch a romantic movie, or you can go out to a restaurant for a candlelit meal. After you eat, be sure to head over to a bar for a drink and a dance. During the day there are also plenty of cafes where you can cuddle up.

Canberra is definitely a city where you can enjoy a romantic break, mostly because it’s set up perfectly for nightlife as well as typical date activities. If this article has tempted you to visit, check out the great range of accommodations in Canberra, be sure to pick a central location to limit too much travelling.

I’d have to say the best part of Canberra is that there are a lot of things here that you just can’t see anywhere else, like the spectacular National Gallery. That’s what makes it such a great choice.

Have you been to Canberra? What did you do that you’d include in this to do list?

  7. If this were a solo trip, you would find me browsing in the farmers market. But if it was a romantic trip, I’d have to go with the National Gallery as that would be a place that we’d both enjoy. My husband is not a browser. He shops with the mission in mind then gets out.

  17. Not really thought of Canberra as a holiday destination. I’ve been many times but always for business functions and ceremonies and all my children have visited with school excursions over the years. It just hasn’t been a ‘holiday’ destination I’ve thought of before. Mmmm…. thinking now

  20. Not only have I been to Canberra, I used to live there – a long time ago. I have family there now, so D and I visit from time to time. Without doubt the best two things to do are cycling around Lake Burley Griffin and visiting Tulip Tops farm, just across the border in NSW, at tulip time.

This is the most cheerful series of couples photos I’ve seen in some time, kept me smiling all the way through the post. Happens that our anniversary is next month so these ideas are in time to help me plan the celebration. But no need to wait . . . since there is a super local cafe where we can (as you’ve termed it) “cuddle up” as soon as tomorrow!
