A Hole in my Shoe was created as a Facebook page on January 28, 2014 to inspire people who enjoy seeing new places and meeting new people to travel to new destinations.  In less than a month A Hole in my Shoe reached over 1000 fans.  We hope to continue to reach more and more far and wide and interact here on our travel blog.

We are Lyn and Steve, a couple from Perth, Western Australia who married and began to travel at 50.

Together we’re putting our relationship to the test, travelling, adventuring and eating our way through life…  In the first 2 years we travelled to 16 countries and despite working full time, in 6 years have now visited 33 countries. We plan on continuing to see as much as we can of this beautiful world we live in.

My husband is the perfect travel companion, he balances everything, if I’m stressed he calms me, if I’m sad he cheers me, if I’m lost he finds me! ~ Lyn

Most seek out the great sites and attractions of the world.  We are drawn to the less monumental, to see how people live, where they live, what they eat, what they wear.  Only then do we see how similar we all are and how very different.

For those who appreciate the pleasures of the table, there are no happier reasons to travel than to explore the world’s great culinary traditions.  Every cuisine tells a unique story about the local landscape, climate, history and culture.  Travel will introduce you to the farmers, fishermen, bakers and chefs who transform nature’s bounty into a thousand gastronomic delights.  If you ignore the food, ignore the customs, fear the religion and avoid the people, then might be better for you to stay at home.

I love travelling, doesn’t matter where we go as long as we go! From interacting with the butterfly’s in Thailand to dragging suitcases through Venice. ~ Steve

Everyday we are one step closer to our next big adventure.  When we are not travelling or working hard to pay for our travel we spend our time in Perth or surrounding areas exploring local markets, heritage buildings, gardens, cafes and wineries.  We enjoy good coffee, wine and love high tea.  We enjoy music, and try and see most musicals that come to Perth and always try and incorporate something musical into our travels.  We also adore colour and collect eclectic pieces from art, to teapots, antiques, even bells. Our love of of colour draws us to Street art and we enjoy spending time photographing street art, both at home in Perth or in our travels abroad.

So welcome to A Hole in my Shoe, we hope you love it here, a place where we inspire, experience and share anything travel related.

An amazing couple!!! We had so much fun being with them. Next place to visit Gibraltar, the Rock of Gibraltar key to the Mediterranean.

I think you guys are amazing! 🙂 Married and started traveling at 50, at that age most people prefer to retire and stay at home and that didn’t stop you from exploring the world together.

Thanks Victoria, not only does he find me when I’m lost, he accepts me for who I am. Our first overseas trip was our honeymoon so I guess we just had to have a sweet intro.

Both of you are a constant reminder that traveling transcends age. Anyone can travel, you just have to find it in you.

Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment Tanj, you are so right. Travel is the one thing that anyone can do, from babies travelling with family, students on a gap year through to grey nomads enjoying their retirement. We each find a style that works for us.
