About

Welcome to A Hole in my Shoe, we hope you love it here, a place where we inspire, experience and share anything travel related.

We are Lyn and Steve, travel bloggers from Perth, Western Australia who married and began to travel at 50. Our thirst for travel began on our honeymoon in 2011 when we took our first overseas trip together travelling to South East Asia. Within the next 2 years we travelled to 16 countries and the plan now is on seeing as much of this beautiful world as we can.

A Hole in my Shoe was created as a Facebook page in January 2014 to inspire people who enjoy travel and meeting people to travel to new destinations. In less than a month A Hole in my Shoe reached over 1000 fans. With the creation of our website we hope to continue to reach people far and wide interacting here and other social media platforms.

Lyn is the dreamer, planner and storyteller.

My husband is the perfect travel companion, he balances everything, if I’m stressed he calms me, if I’m sad he cheers me, if I’m lost he finds me! ~ Lyn

Steve is, photographer, technical creator, food lover and carrier of the bags.

I love travelling, doesn’t matter where we go as long as we go! From interacting with the butterfly’s in Thailand to dragging suitcases through Venice. ~ Steve

Together we’re putting our relationship to the test, travelling, adventuring and eating our way through life. Despite living in one of the world’s most isolated cities and working full time, in 6 years we’ve visited 33 countries.

When we’re not travelling about or working hard to save for our travels we spend our time in Perth checking out the local heritage buildings, restaurants and wineries or doing day trips to surrounding areas. Together we enjoy good coffee, wine and exploring local markets. Both of us enjoy music and try to see most musicals that come to Perth and always try to incorporate something musical in our travels. Our love of colour draws us to Street art and Lyn enjoys spending time photographing street art, out and about in Perth or along our travels.

We love visiting new places, whether locally and abroad. Join us as we explore the markets, gardens and restaurants of the world and share our experiences to inspire you to make your armchair travel a reality.

Everyday we are one step closer to our next big adventure.

I think you guys are amazing! 🙂 Married and started traveling at 50, at that age most people prefer to retire and stay at home and that didn’t stop you from exploring the world together.

Both of you are a constant reminder that traveling transcends age. Anyone can travel, you just have to find it in you.

    • Lyn says:

Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment Tanj, you are so right. Travel is the one thing that anyone can do, from babies travelling with family, students on a gap year through to grey nomads enjoying their retirement. We each find a style that works for us.
