Winter in Perth

Perth has undergone some significant developments in recent years, with Elizabeth Quay and Yagan Square, improving the vibrancy in the city. The city is also being revitalised after hours, utilizing unused spaces, full of charm and character to lure families back to city during winter in Perth, not just to work, but to live and play. One such project is the Brookfield Winter Lights Festival.

Brookfield Place, one of Australia’s most significant commercial precincts and currently the 2nd tallest skyscraper in Western Australia is not only lighting the path for an exciting future, but also hosting a dazzling lighting display.

A combination of beautiful heritage buildings and a premium 45 level office tower of which BHP Billiton is the anchor tenant along with companies like BHP Billiton, PwC and Allianz, is the backdrop for this yearly lighting spectacle during winter in Perth.

Thanks to the Brookfield Winter Light Festival winter in Perth just got brighter. The event is a free event for families and kids at heart to prevent winter boredom, get people out of the house, encourage walking and social interaction.

Neon projections breathe life onto the walls of the heritage buildings of Brookfield Place. The theme of the illuminations is a journey of art and light taking us on a trip back to the 80’s ground breaking era of 8-bit graphics style video games.

Working some decorative magic and bringing the architecture to life in an awe-inspiring display, the dazzling display of colour and lights runs from 6-11pm each night from 20th to 30th June.

Brookfield Lights is once again illuminating the heritage buildings in Brookfield Place in an eye catching array of lights as part of the winter festival. A smaller scale than Vivid, held during winter in Sydney, the festival is a combination of installations, projections and entertainment. There is Birds of Lumos, which are light sculptures, Neon angel wings, umbrellas and balloons alsong with two stilt walkers roaming around wearing stunning illuminated LED costumes.

Since its inception in 2012 this coolest, edgiest and most spectacular light show has been bringing families from their homes at winter in Perth into the city.

Unlike winter in Melbourne, I was surprised to see so many people, many families with children in strollers, enjoying the warm winter evening. It was not the usual wind blowing in the city and for winter, the night was extremely warm. It was still 20c on our way home. I love that the city is usually empty after hours, but tonight it was buzzing. Despite being in the middle of winter, the city was vibrant.

So get together with your friends, work colleagues or family and spend an evening on the Terrace.

As a child growing up with 8-bit game like Pacman and Mario, I’m so in love with the decorations. A warm winter indeed. May I ask, how long does Brookfield Winter Lights Festival last?

Ryan it was fun to see the winter light show. Perth does a light show each year, it is such a great idea and fun to see what themes they use. The Brookfield festival runs for 10 days.

  2. […] Another amazing winter spectacle is Vivid, an unique, annual, free event. Sydney comes alive and lights up the harbour with interactive light shows and breathtaking lighting projections on the Sydney Opera House sails. This dazzling light art mesmerises and this event is the largest of its kind in the world. There is a much smaller scale during winter Perth, which combines installations, projections and entertainment, called Brookfield Winter Lights Festival. […]
